Born in 1917, Chinook was a formidable sled dog whose adventures with his owner, author and explorer Arthur Walden, included climbing Mount Washington and participating in an Antarctic expedition.

The Chinook breed was declared New Hampshire's official state dog in 2010, a recognition that celebrates not just a breed, but also the local culture and heritage. "It’s the New Hampshire state dog for a reason, born and bred here. To me, it’s family," expressed Tyler Sweeney, a Chinook owner who traveled from Alexandria, Virginia to be part of this momentous occasion.
